At 7:44pm on January 23rd, 2014, the Essex Junction Fire Department was requested to respond mutual aid to Lamore Road in the Town of Essex with an engine and manpower for a vehicle overturned in a ditch, filling with water, and an occupant trapped. Engine 5 and Utility 61 responded with a total of 7 personnel and arrived to find Essex Town Fire crews completing the spread of the hatchback on the vehicle utilizing the spreaders (jaws-of-life). A firefighter from Essex Town was inside the vehicle holding the occupants head out of the frigid water. Essex Junction personnel were utilized to assist with removal of the patient via backboard out the rear of the vehicle. The extrication was completed within 8 minutes of the arrival of Essex Junction personnel. The patient was transported by Essex Rescue and Essex Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Essex Town units on scene included 15Engine1, 15Car12 and 15Car10.
