At 18:31 hrs the Essex Junction and Essex Town Fire Departments were requested to respond to the rear of a residence on Old Colchester Road in Essex Junction for what was reported as 50 foot flames behind the residence. With a mile high column of thick black smoke from the area, Utility 61 and Engine 5 responded along with Engine 21 with a total of 11 personnel. Crews arrived on scene to find a shed, lawn tractor, wood pile and a pine tree on fire, with fire continuing up the tree. Utilizing two 1 3/4 attack lines from Engine 5, firefighters were able to knock the fire down quickly and begin overhaul of the fire area. All units were clear of the scene in just over an hour once overhaul was complete and the fire confirmed out. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
