On Monday, June 7 just before 0800 hours, the Essex Junction Fire Department was dispatched with Essex Fire Department and Essex Rescue to 16 Central Street in the Village of Essex Junction for a fire in an apartment.
En route, dispatch updated that smoke and flames were visible inside the building and evacuations were in progress. Hearing this, mutual aid was immediately requested from the Williston Fire Department and the Colchester Fire Department.
EJFD Chief Gaboriault arrived on the scene to find smoke showing from the building. The fire had been mostly knocked down prior to arrival, and mutual aid units were cancelled en route.
Ladder 3 and Essex Fire Engine 2 arrived on the scene and went to work extinguishing the remaining hot spots as well as overhauling the fire area. Personnel worked with Essex Police to secure the scene and State of Vermont Fire Investigators were called in. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
Smoke, fire and water damage was contained to one single unit.
After approximately two hours on the scene, EJFD and EFD personnel and apparatus departed the scene.
