On September 8 at approximately 1430, the Essex Junction Fire Department was dispatched to respond to 33 Rivendell Drive in the Village of Essex Junction for a motor vehicle collision with a building.
Engine 5 responded and arrived on the scene to find an SUV through an entire wall of a garage which was attached to the residence. The operator of the vehicle was being cared for by Essex Rescue.
EJFD personnel went to work assessing the situation. It was determined that two walls of the garage had actually been blown off the foundation and were free floating. Mutual aid was requested from Essex Fire for assistance with stabilization of the structure.
EJFD and EFD personnel worked together to stabilize the structure and assess the damage. It was determined damage was contained to the garage and did not involve the residence. Once the structure was stabilized, personnel entered and assessed internal damage. The vehicle was removed by a tow truck and leaking fluids were mitigated. A large amount of debris was moved out of the way, mostly items which were destroyed from the collision.
GW Savage was called by the homeowner and responded to the scene to further stabilize the structure. EJFD and EFD personnel operated on the scene for approximately one and a half hours before turning the scene over to GW Savage and the homeowner.
EJFD and EFD personnel and apparatus then returned to service.
