Bixby Hill Road Grass & Brush Fire
At 13:04 hrs on April 15th, 2015 the Essex Junction and Essex Town Fire Departments were simultaneously dispatched to 31 Bixby Hill Road for an out of control brush fire.
Essex Fire responded with Engine 1 and Car 12 while Essex Junction responded personnel to the scene in Utility 61. Upon arrival, crews found a large area of grass in a field on fire behind a residence. Personnel went to work stretching forestry lines as well as connecting Engine 1 to the fire hydrant in order to establish a water supply. With most of the field having already burned, the personnel focused on containing the fire that had spread to the nearby forest line and was extending up some small trees. Due to the size of the fire, Underhill-Jericho Fire Department was called mutual aid for manpower and their tracked gator.
It took nearly two hours of labor intensive overhaul to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. Upon clearing the scene, the crew from Essex Junction Fire assisted Essex Fire personnel with ensuring all equipment was cleaned and returned to service in a timely fashion. All Essex Junction personnel were back in the station by 16:30 hrs.
